HALF A CHANCE! Southampton continue to press into the dying moments with Redmond feeding Austin, whose shot goes into the side-netting from a tight angle. That could well be it here at St. Mary's...
90' +2
INCHES WIDE! Yoshida steps up and brilliantly curls the ball around the wall, but just wide of the post with Fabianski stranded.
90' +1
As the fourth official indicates three minutes of stoppage time, Southampton are awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the area after Romeu is bundled over by Ayew. What a chance for the Saints this is...!
90'
J. Fulton gets yellow.
Fulton prevents Tadic from taking a quick free-kick and duly has his name taken by the referee.
89'
OUCH! Redmond's scream echoes around St. Mary's as he goes down under a heavy challenge from Fernandez. However, the referee deems it to be a fair one and a throw-in is the verdict as opposed to a free-kick and card.
86'
S. McQueen enters the game and replaces R. Bertrand.
O. McBurnie enters the game and replaces W. Routledge.
Meanwhile, Oliver McBurnie comes on for Routledge in Swansea's final change of the match.
Southampton's final change sees Sam McQueen thrown on in place of Bertrand.
85'
NO PENALTY! Stephens' volley strikes the raised arm in front of Bartley's face in the box. Although, it was from point-blank range and there was very little he could have done about it. so a good decision by the referee.
83'
JUST OVER! Tadic goes close to breaking the deadlock on his 99th Southampton appearance. The Saints build up the pressure again with Austin being found in the box. He finds Davis, who tees it up for the Serbian to send a curling effort narrowly over the crossbar.
81'
K. Bartley enters the game and replaces T. Abraham.
Abraham recevies a wonderful reception from the travelling support as he is given a breather by Clement. Kyle Bartley comes on in his place and it is pretty obvious that the visitors would be more than happy to leave St. Mary's with a point.

Description
80'
HOW DOES HE MISS?! Yoshida should have broken the deadlock! The centre-half ghosts after a cross is flicked on to the far post, but he is unable to keep his header under the crossbar.
79'
WHAT AN EFFORT! Tadic has the ball 30 yards from goal and some space opens for him to let fly with a goalbound effort that has to be turned behind by Fabianski.
76'
Despite their corner count going up to 11, Southampton are still yet to break down this stubborn Swansea defence. Can the visitors hold on for a well-deserved point?
74'
J. Fulton enters the game and replaces L. Britton.
Britton is given a rest as Swansea make their first change. Jay Fulton comes on in his place.
73'
Pellegrino hoping that the two changes pay dividends for Southampton. Interestingly, Austin has scored three times on the opening day of the season - most recently for Burnley to kickstart the 2012/13 campaign - and how he would love to get another here.
71'
S. Boufal enters the game and replaces J. Ward-Prowse.
A second substitute in the space of two minutes sees Sofiane Boufal introduced in place of Ward-Prowse.
70'
GOOD BLOCK! Ward-Prowse's corner is only half-cleared as far as Davis, whose goalbound volley is deflected behind by the well-positioned Fernandez. Swansea certainly deserve credit for the way they have defended today.
69'
C. Austin enters the game and replaces M. Gabbiadini.
Southampton make the first change of the day and a disappointed Gabbiadini makes way to be replaced by Charlie Austin.
67'
We are still goalless heading into the final quarter of the match at St. Mary's. Neither side have found the breakthrough so far but, if you had to pick a winner at the moment, it would be Southampton.
64'
That would have been a first Southampton goal for Cedric, who was linked with a move away from St. Mary's during pre-season. The likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Chelsea were all reportedly interested in securing the services of the Euro 2016 winner.
62'
CLOSE! The onrushing Cedric is just whiskers away from connecting with Gabbiadini's dangerous ball into the box from the right and, once again, Swansea survive.
60'
While the hosts continue to dominate in terms of possession, they are not really carrying the same threat as in the first half. Pellegrino does have alternatives on the bench in the shape of Long and Austin going into the final half an hour.
57'
The majority of Southampton's attacks have come through Tadic today. The Serbian has been a revelation since joining from FC Twente in August 2014 with his creativity and wonderful left foot causing all sorts of problems for the opposition. He is one of only six players to provide four assists in a single Premier League game and tops that chart in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying phase.
55'
GOOD DEFENDING! Once again, Swansea's back line comes to the rescue - making a vital clearance after Tadic had burst into the box and pulled the ball back across the face of goal.
53'
It is worth noting that, despite his strong start in England, Gabbiadini has failed to find the net in each of his eight most recent appearances for the Saints and he will be eager to end that drought by beginning this season with a bang.
51'
Gabbiadini is found in the box and cuts back onto his left foot before looking for the far corner with a curling effort that goes wide of the target.
49'
That was wonderfully instinctive play from Abraham, who did so well to manufacture space for himself in that tight area. There is plenty of football to be played this season, but the teenager will certainly have his eye on England's 2018 FIFA World Cup squad should they qualify.
47'
GREAT BLOCK! Swansea make a strong start after the break with Fer leading the charge into the box. He feeds the ball into Abraham, who brilliantly turns away from Yoshida's challenge before his goalbound effort is blocked by Cedric with Forster struggling.
46'
KICK-OFF! The referee blows his whistle and Southampton get the ball rolling once more!
45' +1
Southampton are awarded a free-kick after a clumsy challenge from Routledge on Bertrand. However, the Swans survive and the referee swiftly blows for half-time.
45'
The fourth official raises his board to indicate that there will be an additional minute of stoppage time at the end of this first half.
43'
Worrying signs for Southampton as Davis is hobbling around in the centre of the field. The skipper may be heading off at half-time, which means we could see a debut for record signing Lemina.
41'
OUCH! Olsson ushers the ball behind for a goal-kick under pressure from Ward-Prowse, whose shoulder barge sends the Swansea full-back somersaulting over the advertising hoardings. The Swede is understandably unhappy with the situation and takes a second to gather himself before re-entering the action.
39'
The Japanese international showed great instinct for a centre-half there and went close to scoring for the second time in the space of two weeks, having also netted against Saint-Etienne during pre-season.
37'
CHANCE! Just wide from Yoshida! Tadic's deep cross is nodded down into the path of the centre-half, who does not quite connect properly with his attempted scissor-kick and sends it wide of the target.
35'
GOOD DEFENDING! The ball almost breaks kindly for Southampton in the box, but Swansea defence remains stubborn and manages to prevent a clear route to the goal.
33'
Oriol Romeu gets yellow.
Romeu goes into the book after his aerial challenge with Carroll is deemed to have been overly aggressive.
30'
The Swans deal with the danger on this occasion as the ball goes behind for a goal kick.
29'
Swansea just cannot escape their own half and more good pressure from the Saints leads to Olsson conceding a corner. Bertrand is coming across to take it...
27'
Tadic goes to ground under a challenge from Fernandez on the edge of the area, but the referee is not interested and points for a goal kick much to the dismay of the Serbian international. Replays show there was certainly contact, but he appeared to go down rather easily.
25'
However, the Saints still look dangerous whenever they go forward. Redmond sees a snap shot from the edge of the area fly just over the crossbar, before Ward-Prowse's bending 25-yard effort is well gathered by the outstretched Fabianski.
23'
No real surprise that Swansea look to take the sting out of the game by maintaining possession around their defence and midfield. They are slowly aiming to gain a foothold in this contest and diffuse Southampton's pressure.
21'
GOOD PRESSURE! You feel it is only a matter of time before the Saints make the breakthrough. Ward-Prowse is unable to connect properly with a great cross from Redmond who, just seconds later, drags a decent chance wide of the target.
20'
GREAT BLOCK! Some clever play from Southampton sees Redmond get in behind the defence. He pulls the ball back to edge of the area for Ward-Prowse to strike, but a combination of Mawson and Olsson manages to deflect the goalbound effort over the crossbar.
18'
Southampton continue to ask questions as another dangerous ball into the box is just about dealt with by the Swans on this occasion.
16'
N. Redmond gets yellow.
Redmond is shown the first yellow card of the game after blocking Fabianski's attempted downfield clearance from his hands. A soft one but, in the letter of the law, the right decision from Mr Jones.
15'
It has been an eventful opening quarter of an hour at St. Mary's, where both sides should be on the scoresheet by now. Southampton are still on top in terms of possession, but Swansea are holding their own and potentially dangerous on the counter.
12'
Big things are expected of the 19-year-old, who was a revelation on loan at Bristol City last season - scoring 26 goals in 48 appearances. He also won the club's Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer awards - becoming the first Robins player to capture all three accolades in the same season.
10'
CHANCE! Abraham should score! With their first real attack of this match, the Chelsea loanee is unmarked in the box to meet Routledge's brilliant cross. However, he can only head wide of the target and what a chance that was to get off the mark!
8'
It is worth noting that Southampton have never won a home fixture on the opening day of a Premier League season - drawing five and losing four - but, if they can maintain these performance levels, the jinx could well end here.
6'
Well, this has been a very positive start from the Saints. Their form faded towards the end of last season especially at St. Mary's, where they picked up just two points from their final five games. However, the early signs appear to be bright in Pellegrino's first match in charge.
4'
CHANCE! Tadic should've put Southampton in front! Bertrand is involved again in a dangerous attack from the hosts. The England left-back is played in by Redmond and cuts the ball back into the six-yard box for an unmarked Tadic, who is just unable to steer past Fabianski at the near post.
2'
OFF THE BAR! Southampton have made a strong start to this match and force a corner inside the opening minute. Bertrand's delivery is met at the near post by Gabbiadini, whose header clips the top of the crossbar with Fabianski flat-footed.
1'
KICK-OFF! Mike Jones is our referee today. He blows his whistle and Swansea get the match underway!
There is no feeling quite like the opening weekend of the new football season, with both sides optimistic and hoping that this is the start of a memorable campaign in the Premier League. The drama will unfold over the next nine months in the English top-flight, but it all starts here!
Hello everyone and welcome to LIVE text coverage on the opening weekend of the 2017/18 Premier League season! Today, we're at St. Mary's as Mauricio Pellegrino's Southampton take on Swansea City. It's good to have your company!
In his first game in charge, Pellegrino has gone with the same 11 that started Southampton's final pre-season friendly against Sevilla last week. That means a 4-2-3-1 formation with Manolo Gabbiadini the lone striker in front of James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond, while Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida are paired in the heart of defence with Virgil van Dijk reportedly on the brink of departing the south coast. Record signing Mario Lemina starts on the bench alongside fellow summer recruit Jan Bednarek, while Shane Long and Charlie Austin are also among the substitutes.
Paul Clement begins his first full season at Swansea by also naming the same starting 11 from their final pre-season friendly against Sampdoria last week. The most notable absentee is the inspirational Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is edging closer to a £50 million move to Everton, but evergreen skipper Leon Britton will be pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham makes his debut as part of a three-man attack with support from Wayne Routledge and Jordan Ayew, while fellow new signing Roque Mesa could make his debut from the bench.
HERE THEY COME! The teams are out and kick-off at St. Mary's is just moments away...
HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 SWANSEA CITY
We're still goalless at the break at St. Mary's but it has been a very eventful first half, with both sides having the opportunity to break the deadlock and the first goal will be crucial after the restart.
The players are making their way back out onto the field and the second half is imminent.
FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 SWANSEA CITY
Honours even at St. Mary's as Southampton and Swansea play out a goalless draw on the opening day of the new season. The Saints looked the more likely to claim all three points, but were just unable to break down the visitors' stubborn defence and, in the end, had to settle for a share of the spoils.
That's all for now! Thank you for following our LIVE text coverage of the 2017/18 Premier League - hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, see you soon!
