We're underway at the Emirates Stadium.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal come into the contest off the back of successive defeats in the Premier League and EFL Cup. The Gunners were beaten in the top flight for the first time since August, losing on the road at Southampton last week. Unai Emery's men were then on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup at the hands of their bitter rivals Tottenham. They cannot afford to let the effects of those defeats linger in the busy festive period.
Burnley have won only one out of their last 10 matches in the Premier League, leaving them in trouble in the relegation zone. Sean Dyche's men took a step forward with a win over Brighton two weeks ago, but suffered a late defeat to Tottenham at Wembley last time out. The situation is not a desperate one yet, but the Clarets need to dig themselves out of the bottom three sooner rather than later.
SUBS: Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Lucas Torreira, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Alex Iwobi, Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka.
BURNLEY (5-3-2): Joe Hart; Phil Bardsley, Kevin Long, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor; Jeff Hendrick, Jack Cork, Ashley Westwood; Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood.
SUBS: Tom Heaton, Matthew Lowton, Sam Vokes, Ben Gibson, Matej Vydra, Dwight McNeil, Ali Koiki.
Arsenal lead at half-time in the Premier League for the first time under Unai Emery. Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang's strike has put them ahead against Burnley, although it has not been a classic performance from the Gunners. Mesut Ozil produced a moment of quality to cut open the Clarets' backline before Sead Kolasinac teed up Aubameyang to score. The home side have had a couple of other half-chances, but it has been a quiet affair on the whole at the Emirates Stadium.
Burnley had an opening in the early stages of the game when Ashley Barnes released Ashley Westwood. However, the midfielder was unable to take the opportunity and since then the visitors have had nothing much to shout about in the final third. Frustration appeared to get the better of Barnes when he jostled with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, earning a yellow card. It has been that sort of game and season for Sean Dyche's men.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Arsenal travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in their Premier League clash on Boxing Day, while Burnley host Everton.
