Madrid won the competition last year with a 1-0 win over Gremio as Cristiano Ronaldo's second-half strike decided the contest.
Madrid defeated Kashima Antlers in the semi-finals of the competition courtesy of a hat-trick from Gareth Bale. The club will look to become the first team in the history of the competition to win three titles on the bounce. Al Ain earned their first appearance in the final by defeating River Plate on penalties. Goals from Marcus Berg and Caio Fernandes cancelled out a brace from Rafael Borre, sending the contest to spot-kicks. Al Ain made all five of their efforts, while Enzo Perez missed the decisive effort for the Argentinean side.
Real Madrid have a one-goal lead at the break over Al Ain in the Club World Cup final. Luka Modric's curling strike put them ahead in the 14th minute and they have had opportunties to extend their lead. Karim Benzema, Lucas Vazquez, Gareth Bale and Modric have all had opportunities, but the game remains in the balance at the break.
Al Ain have given a good account of themselves this evening, continuing their good work from their win over River Plate. Hussein El Shahat could have put his team ahead when he weaved his way past Thibaut Courtois, only to be denied by Sergio Ramos on the line. Zoran Mamic's men have been up for the challenge, but they just need an extra piece of quality in the final third.
AL AIN (4-3-2-1): Khalid Eisa; Mohamed Ahmed, Ismail Ahmed, Mohammed Fayez, Tsukasa Shiotani; Rayan Yaslam Mohamad, Mohamed Abdulrahman, Tongo Doumbia; Hussein El Shahat, Caio Fernandes; Marcus Berg.
Madrid are not in action again until the New Year when they face Villarreal in LaLiga on the road on January 3, while Al Ain's next scheduled game comes against Al Dhafra.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
