The hosts are out in their home colours of claret and blue, while the visitors are kitted in their all-white away apparel.
Referee Michael Oliver blows his whistle, and Burnley get us underway at Turf Moor!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of this Boxing Day Premier League clash as Burnley host Everton at Turf Moor!
BURNLEY XI (5-3-2): Joe Hart; Matthew Lowton, Ben Gibson, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee (c), Charlie Taylor; Ashley Westwood, Jack Cork, Jeff Hendrick; Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how both sides line up, starting with the hosts.
SUBSTITUTES: Maarten Stekelenburg, Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, Oumar Niasse, Richarlison.
SUBSTITUTES: Tom Heaton, Phil Bardsley, Kevin Long, Johann Gudmundsson, Dwight McNeil, Matej Vydra, Chris Wood.
EVERTON XI (3-4-3): Jordan Pickford; Michael Keane, Kurt Zouma, Yerry Mina; Seamus Coleman (c), Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne; Theo Walcott, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bernard.
The players are out and kick-off is drawing near.
The Toffees started the match on fire, making a mockery of their recent record at Turf Moor with three goals inside the first 22 minutes and ripping their opponents to shreds at times with some swashbuckling forays into the Burnley half. However, Gibson’s goal should be a reminder to Silva’s men that they must remain vigilant, and the Everton gaffer will be annoyed at having conceded so close to half-time.
After a terrible opening 30 minutes, Burnley were able to grow into the game and were rewarded for their efforts with a Gibson goal that came completely out of the blue, such was Everton’s initial dominance over them from the opening whistle. While their opposition still has a two-goal cushion over them, Dyche will be aware of his side’s emerging performance towards the end of the half and will look for a more improved performance after the interval.
Despite their 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday, Burnley manager Sean Dyche was able to find positives in his side’s combative performance at the Emirates where the scoreline didn’t reflect the whole story. And given their excellent recent record against their opponents, Dyche and his Clarets will see this fixture as a decent opportunity to climb out of the bottom three having spent Christmas two points away from safety in 18th.
A visit to Turf Moor, where they have lost in three of their last four trips, may not be the best cure for the Toffees following their 6-2 thrashing by Tottenham in front of their Goodison Park faithful. Marco Silva will need to regain some of their early season form to break a run of five winless matches on the trot, knowing that a win will shoot them back up the top half of the table from their current position of 11th.
And that wraps up our coverage. We hope you enjoyed our commentary, and until next time, goodbye!
Next up for Burnley are more hosting duties as they prepare to welcome Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham on Sunday. As for Everton, a trip down to the south coast awaits when they play Brighton a day beforehand.
