Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Bournemouth and Watford.
Bournemouth’s great start to the season is a distant memory. Eddie Howe’s side have slumped of late, which has seen them drop down to 12th. They lost heavily to Tottenham and Manchester United in their last two, but their early season victories mean they are not at relegation risk. Howe will be keen for his team to return to winning ways in front of their own fans this evening.
SUBS: Will Hughes, Heurelho Gomes, Isaac Success, Miguel Britos, Adam Masina, Tom Cleverley, Domingos Quina.
WATFORD (4-2-2-2): Ben Foster; Kiko Femenia, Adrian Mariappa, Craig Cathcart, Jose Holebas; Abdoulaye Doucoure, Etienne Capoue; Ken Sema, Roberto Pereyra; Gerard Deulofeu, Troy Deeney.
SUBS: Lys Mousset, Diego Rico, Jermain Defoe, Artur Boruc, Andrew Surman, Jordon Ibe, Tyrone Mings.
BOURNEMOUTH (3-4-1-2): Asmir Begovic; Steve Cook, Nathan Ake, Charlie Daniels; Junior Stanislas, Dan Gosling, Jefferson Lerma, Ryan Fraser; David Brooks; Callum Wilson, Joshua King.
Watford, like Bournemouth, began the season in fine form. Their drop off has not been as drastic as the Cherries’, though Javi Gracia will have been disappointed to see his team draw at home to Newcastle last time out. The Hornets notched an impressive win against to West Ham in their last away match, however. Gracia will hope for a similar performance from his team tonight.
Bournemouth and Watford are level at 3-3 after an incredible first half. Deeney put Watford 2-0 up with a good header and powerful finish before a dramatic spell of four goals in six minutes. Ake and Wilson scored from set pieces to get it back to 2-2 before Sema netted from the edge of the area to quickly put Watford back ahead. Fraser took advantage of some dreadful Watford defending to level it up again just moments later.
Howe will be pleased to see his side come from behind twice in the first half. The defensive display is an obvious concern for the Bournemouth manager, especially the dominance of Deeney. Howe could turn to Surman to reinforce the midfield, though he may wait a while before making changes after a crazy first half. Gracia will be frustrated with his team's defending, particularly for Bournemouth's third goal when Fraser was left in space on the edge of the area. Success and Quina are the main attacking options off the bench for the visitors.
After falling two goals behind, Howe will be delighted his side fought back, though he may be a bit frustrated they were unable to score a fourth in the second half. Gracia would have been happy with a point before the match, but this will feel like a missed opportunity for the visitors. The two teams remain separated by two points in the congested mid-table. Their attention now turns to FA Cup Third Round action this weekend, when both managers will likely rotate their squads after the hectic festive period.
Thanks for joining our live commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
