Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Europa League last-16 second-leg clash between Dynamo Kiev and Chelsea!
Kiev face a mighty challenge in front of their own fans after a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last week. Head coach Aleksandr Khatskevich said such a turnaround would require a “miracle,” but the Ukrainians have come back from first leg away setbacks in Europe before. They knocked out Guingamp in the last 32 and then Everton in the last 16 four years ago.
The Europa League is proving to be a much-needed boost at times for Chelsea this season. Maurizio Sarri’s men missed the chance to make up ground in the Premier League top four race against Wolves at the weekend, but can surely play with more freedom tonight given the aggregate scoreline. The Blues boss has still brought a very strong squad with him to Kiev, and he’ll hope they can emerge unscathed from a playing surface he described as a “disaster”.
Sarri won't need to call upon the likes of Hazard or Pedro after a blistering first half, should he wish to give some of his top talent an extended rest. Barkley has been a star performer in Europe for Chelsea this term, though, and will be keen to feature. As mentioned before, Kiev must make sure they keep the score down in the second half to come.
Kiev turn their attention back to chasing Shakhtar on domestic duty. Meanwhile, Chelsea face a struggle of their own to reach the top four in the Premier League, and head to Everton this Sunday. That concludes our coverage, thanks for reading along!
