Referee Michael Oliver blows his whistle, and Southampton get us underway at the Amex Stadium!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of this Premier League match as Brighton and Hove Albion host Southampton at the Amex Stadium!
Sitting just five points above the relegation zone in 15th, Brighton know that they still have some work to do to ensure their top-flight status for next season. However, they come into this game in decent form, including beating Millwall on penalties to progress to the FA Cup semi-finals, and Chris Hughton will see this fixture as a chance for his Seagulls to win three league matches for the first time since October.
Southampton should be buoyed by their comeback victory against Tottenham Hotspur in their last league match before the international break, and this could prove vital in what is also a pivotal game for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men. Sitting three points behind their hosts in 16th, having also played an extra game, a win for the Saints at the Amex Stadium would be a huge boost to their Premier League survival hopes.
BRIGHTON XI (4-3-3): Mat Ryan; Martin Montoya, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk (c), Bernardo; Davy Propper, Dale Stephens, Yves Bissouma; Anthony Knockaert, Glenn Murray, Alireza Jahanbakhsh.
And without further ado, let’s take a look at how both sides line up, starting with the hosts.
SUBSTITUTES: Matt Targett, Jack Stephens, Charlie Austin, Sam Gallagher, Josh Sims, Alex McCarthy, Mohamed Elyounoussi.
SOUTHAMPTON XI (4-3-2-1): Angus Gunn; Yan Valery, Jan Bednarek, Maya Yoshida, Ryan Bertrand; James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (c); Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Redmond; Danny Ings.
SUBSTITUTES: Beram Kayal, Dan Burn, Solly March, Jose Izquierdo, Gaetan Bong, Jurgen Locadia, David Button.
The players are out and kick-off is drawing near.
Hughton and Hasenhuttl will have similar aims for their sides once they come out for the second half, and that is to up their creativity and finish their chances when they eventually come. Brighton, in particular, will do well to maintain their defensive solidity against a Southampton side that have the players to nick a goal on the counter. An interesting 45 minutes await for both sides.
Both sides resume Premier League action this week, as Brighton travel to London to face Chelsea on Wednesday while Southampton prepare to host Liverpool two days later.
And that wraps up our coverage. We hope you enjoyed our commentary, and until next time, goodbye!
