Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Wolves and Manchester United.
Wolves suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Burnley at the weekend, making it one win in six in the Premier League for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. There are several clubs putting them under pressure for seventh, including the in-form pair of Leicester and Everton. The west Midlands club will be confident of a good result here, though, having knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup in March.
SUBS: Ivan Cavaleiro, Jonny, John Ruddy, Adama Traore, Helder Costa, Morgan Gibbs-White, Romain Saiss.
SUBS: Andreas Pereira, Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo, Nemanja Matic, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3): David de Gea; Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba; Diogo Dalot, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard.
Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer permanently last week and he got a victory in his first match, seeing his side beat Watford 2-1 at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were lucky to pick up the three points, however, as the Hornets created plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Solskjaer’s side are currently fifth in the Premier League but are level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham. They could go up to third tonight ahead of Tottenham's clash with Crystal Palace tomorrow.
Solskjaer makes six changes to the team that beat Watford at the weekend. Rashford, Martial, Mata, Matic and Jones drop to the bench, while Herrera is not named in the 18. Lukaku gets the nod up front and Lingard returns to the XI, having come off the bench on Saturday. Pogba is the only midfielder to retain his place and he’s joined by McTominay and Fred in a midfield three.
Nuno will be pleased with his team’s performance despite a slow start. Jota and Jimenez have posed a constant threat on the break, while Dendoncker, Neves and Moutinho have grown into the game in midfield. Nuno may turn to Traore as they push for a winner in the second half. Solskjaer will be disappointed with conceding such a soft goal. United have not been at their best in the final third and Pogba has drifted in and out of the game. Rashford is carrying a knock, but we could see him soon after the break.
Thanks for joining us for this evening's live commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
Nuno will be delighted with his side’s second-half performance. Wolves have excelled against the top six this season, and they were the better team tonight after a poor start. Jota caused endless problems and the midfield controlled the match. Their attention now turns to this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Watford. Solskjaer will see this as a missed opportunity in the race for a top four spot as Manchester United will drop to sixth if Chelsea beat Brighton tomorrow night. The Red Devils are not in Premier League action this weekend, giving them plenty of time to prepare for next week’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.
