We're underway at St James' Park.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Crystal Palace at St James' Park.
Newcastle's impressive run of form came to an end last week against Burnley, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Clarets on the road. The Magpies had put together a fine run of three matches unbeaten, including victories over Sheffield United and Southampton. However, Chris Wood's strike condemned Steve Bruce's men to defeat, leaving them with work to do today to get back to winning ways.
Palace are unbeaten in their last four matches, although they've been held to draws in their last two outings against Brighton and Hove Albion and Watford. Roy Hodgson's men are sitting comfortably in mid-table, but he and the Eagles will have ambitions of challenging for a place in the top six. If results land in their favour and they win this afternoon, Palace could be sitting in the top six come Christmas Day.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (3-4-3): Martin Dubravka; Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Florian Lejeune; Javier Manquillo, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Paul Dummett; Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, Andy Carroll.
NEWCASTLE UNITED SUBS: Dwight Gayle, Emil Krafth, DeAndre Yedlin, Karl Darlow, Christian Atsu, Sean Longstaff, Matthew Longstaff.
CRYSTAL PALACE (4-3-3): Vincente Guaita; Martin Kelly, James Tomkins, Luka Milivojevic, Patrick van Aanholt; Cheikhou Kouyate, James McCarthy, James McArthur; Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha.
CRYSTAL PALACE SUBS: Max Meyer, Wayne Hennessey, Connor Wickham, Sam Woods, Brandon Pierrick, James Daly, Jairo Riedewald.
Roy Hodgson will be the happier of the two managers at the break. Palace have looked dangerous at times in the final third and will feel that they should be ahead. Newcastle have knocked the ball around well enough, but have lacked the clinical edge needed to create a clear-cut opening.
Both teams are back in action on Boxing Day as Newcastle travel to face Manchester United, while Palace host West Ham United.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
