LATE CHANCE! Could that have been the opportunity? Soyuncu meets a long throw from the right and heads straight at Nyland.
90' +1
There will be a minimum of three minutes added to this first leg.
90'
Further Leicester pressure has not really followed the equaliser as they might have hoped. Villa would be good value for a draw solely due to their defensive efforts.
88'
It is now an hour since Villa scored with their only shot on target of the match so far. They did later hit the bar, but Leicester have been well on top.
87'
A Villa free-kick is nodded clear by Vardy, but Leicester struggle to get a hold of the ball, allowing the visitors to attack again. Ricardo blocks Taylor's cross, but Villa build once more. Guilbert's foul on a Leicester man finally grants the home side a reprieve.
86'
H. Lansbury enters the game and replaces M. Nakamba.
SUB: Villa's final change sees Lansbury on for Nakamba.
84'
Another wasted Leicester corner has them start again on halfway. Maddison's latest fruitless effort is blocked. Villa clear time and again, before the ball arrives in Nyland's hands.
83'
Albrighton is first to Maddison's pass in the area and skids across the turf under pressure from Hourihane. He gets to his feet as the referee signals for no penalty, driving in a low cross that Mings clears.
81'
The referee wants a word with Soyuncu after he clashes first with Hause and then with Mings. No cards, but the Leicester man is not happy.
Minute
Description
80'
It is not proving to be Maddison's night. He lines up a 20-yard blast from Vardy's lay-off but misses the target by a long way.
Albrighton is quickly involved with a direct dash down the right, but his cross is too high for Vardy and gathered easily by Nyland.
79'
M. Albrighton enters the game and replaces Y. Tielemans.
SUB: Tielemans makes way after a tough outing. Ex-Villa man Albrighton is introduced.
78'
Villa have just managed to slow the game again since the goal. A draw would still be a handy return from an away leg.
76'
The noise levels increase again at the King Power. Leicester will be looking for a lead to take into the second leg now.
74'
K. Ịheanachọ has scored a goal for Leicester City! Assist by J. Vardy.
I. Vassilev enters the game and replaces A. El Ghazi.
E. Konsa gets yellow.
SUB: El Ghazi is hobbling as he makes his way off, and it is just a second senior appearance for 18-year-old Vassilev. His first came on Saturday.
YELLOW: Konsa goes into the book for time-wasting from a Villa free-kick.
GOAL!! Iheanacho gets the leveller! Douglas Luiz is caught on the ball by Choudhury, who feeds Vardy. A quick pass has Iheanacho into the area and able to slam high past Nyland. 1-1!
Vardy gets the assist, but Villa really shot themselves in the foot. Konsa, booked for time-wasting from the free-kick, put Douglas Luiz in an awkward spot from which he could not recover.
72'
Great play from Iheanacho. He spins a man on halfway and immediately looks for Vardy with a long ball. The Leicester striker is slow to react but wins a throw-in from Konsa. The Foxes can attack again.
71'
Grealish does so well to hold the ball up on the right flank and invite pressure from Evans, who predictably fouls the Villa captain. Welcome respite for the visitors.
69'
K. Ịheanachọ enters the game and replaces Ayoze Pérez.
SUB: Perez has played well but Leicester need something different. Iheanacho is on.
68'
Perez does well to reach a Chilwell pass that misses its intended target in Vardy, but a lofted pass back towards his strike partner under pressure is seen through to Nyland.
67'
C. Hourihane enters the game and replaces Trézéguet.
SUB: A change in shape for Villa perhaps? Winger Trezeguet is replaced by midfielder Hourihane, who comes on with instructions for Grealish.
66'
Leicester's 10th corner of the game comes following a Maddison cross, but Tielemans - given set-piece duties this time - can only pick out Nyland. The goalkeeper stays down, having clashed with a Leicester man, and takes a little time off the clock.
65'
Tielemans springs Perez clear on the right, and the forward takes his time to lay the ball back to Maddison. A low cross-shot is easily cleared by Hause, though, the midfielder perhaps going for the wrong option.
62'
A free-kick from the right is cleared only as far as Choudhury, whose low shot is on target but well blocked. Leicester are forced to go backwards again.
61'
Leicester just step up the tempo a little and Tielemans wins a free-kick on the right, burning past Hause.
60'
It is another awful Maddison corner. He has been well below his best in the opening hour. The ball goes over everyone, and Perez does well to keep it in play before conceding a throw-in.
59'
There is no way through. A dangerous delivery from the right is cleared, but the corner is poor again. Maddison cannot then work room for a shot or a cross on the edge of the area. Finally, another cross is again dealt with by Mings.
58'
The Leicester fans are not happy as El Ghazi attempts to see a bloody nose tended to on the field. Ricardo was off the pitch with a similar problem in the first half when Villa hit the post. He is ushered off.
57'
Hause clears Maddison's corner, though, and Fuchs' wild attempted strike from a long way out is hacked away by Konsa.
56'
A better ball from Maddison at least gets Villa facing their own goal, forcing Mings to clear behind.
55'
Really good work from Villa. They pack the final third, meaning there is no room for Leicester, and then win the ball from Ricardo and break. Grealish carries the ball, Trezeguet goes left, and Douglas Luiz sees a low shot blocked.
54'
Leicester's final ball has been so poor. They are fortunate to keep the ball after a misplaced Tielemans pass on the left, but Fuchs, charging forward, can only cross straight onto the head of Hause.
52'
Really poor from Tielemans. Maddison plays a pass into the path of his midfield colleague 25 yards from goal, but a wild strike flies over the top.
51'
Almost! Perez has been one of Leicester's better performers and he is heavily involved. The move starts on the right with the striker, before Tielemans plays a pass back into his feet. A prod on almost finds Vardy, but Nyland pounces in the nick of time.
49'
Leicester's set-pieces have been very underwhelming. Maddison goes short and gets the ball back off Tielemans in a good position, but his cross is straight at Mings.
A spectacular dive from Trezeguet! Leicester have a corner after Mings' clearance, but Villa clear again. Trezeguet leads the break and beats Choudhury on halfway before giving up on the ball, opting instead to go down theatrically. No foul. Choudhury has a reputation for tough tackles, but that was not one.
48'
Powerful run from Ricardo! He starts on the right flank and beats two or three players before Guilbert hacks the ball behind for another Leicester corner.
47'
Better from Leicester to win a corner down the right. But Maddison's corner goes out off Chilwell. Evans wants a penalty as he tussles with Konsa, but no foul is given.
46'
H. Choudhury enters the game and replaces D. Praet.
SUB: A change in midfield for Leicester. Choudhury replaces Praet.
KICK-OFF: Maddison gets the second half started for Leicester, who trail 1-0.
Oh dear. Leicester move at speed with Maddison pushing the ball on to Perez, but the midfield attempts to take the ball back off his team-mate's toe and the two both trip and go to ground.
45' +2
The last action of the half sees Evans' header deflected behind by the goalscorer Guilbert.
HALF-TIME: Leicester City 0-1 Aston Villa
45' +1
Leicester are ending the half on top again, and Mings blocks bravely from Maddison's drive after a long move on the edge of the area.
There will be a minimum of one minute added time.
45'
The Foxes take their time down the left until Fuchs looks for Vardy, and Villa clear. Evans has to be alert to nod the long ball back to Schmeichel, with Grealish on his shoulder.
44'
Leicester are second to every ball now. Maddison plays in a really poor cross, then Nakamba beats both Perez and Pereira - now sporting a bandage - in the tackle. Evans fouls Grealish.
41'
Now El Ghazi goes past Soyuncu and gets a free-kick as the covering Pereira is late. Pereira comes out of the challenge with blood on his face and will need the cut to be tidied up.
40'
Villa are starting to move the ball around with real confidence. Leicester are pressing but having little luck. Every pass is cheered as Grealish dribbles past Perez with ease.
39'
J. Vardy gets yellow.
YELLOW: Now Vardy goes into the book. An awful Douglas Luiz pass puts Villa under pressure, but Vardy is late on Konsa and is penalised.
37'
Pereira gets down the right and crosses, but Mings intercepts. Leicester are so effective on the break usually, yet Villa look dangerous themselves on the counter with the Foxes trailing.
36'
A. El Ghazi gets yellow.
YELLOW: The first booking goes to El Ghazi, who chops down Tielemans as the Leicester man accelerates through the midfield.
35'
Leicester are struggling to get further than the edge of the Villa box. Patient build-up play concludes with a big switch from Soyuncu to Chilwell, which the full-back can only nod to a Villa player.
33'
Vardy is offside as he controls a long ball from Fuchs and lashes over the top. Leicester had been the better of the two teams but look a little flat now.
31'
Villa are full of confidence now. Taylor gets up on the left but plays in a poor cross. There are players in claret and blue on hand to halt Praet's counter, though.
29'
As the Villa fans roar their appreciation and Grealish carries them forward again, the Leicester supporters are suddenly a little quiet.
28'
F. Guilbert has scored a goal for Aston Villa! Assist by A. El Ghazi.
With no strikers in the team, it is an unlikely Villa goalscorer, but the merits of getting El Ghazi into a wide area are there to see. He crosses brilliantly for Guilbert, who beats Chilwell to the ball.
GOAL!! Villa lead! Against the run of play! They get men forward and, although Soyuncu can cut out a dangerous pass, the ball is moved left to El Ghazi, who crosses. Guilbert arrives at the far post to prod high past Schmeichel. 1-0 to the visitors!
27'
Ricardo does brilliantly to skip by Taylor after Perez's pass, then feeding Vardy. A return ball, chipped over the defence, is intended for Pereira again, but Hause muscles the full-back away.
25'
Perez does well again and this time has Chilwell forward in support. A low cross on the overlap is cut out by Mings, although the Villa defender makes a meal of the clearance. The visitors survive.
24'
Maddison wastes the free-kick. He fizzes it in from the left just above the cluster of players in the area, yet it is wide of the target and Nyland can see it behind.
23'
A rare Villa break follows that Leicester chance, but it comes to nothing and Schmeichel claims. Then Vardy wins a free-kick from Mings in a dangerous area as Leicester race back down the other end.
22'
GREAT BLOCK! Wonderful from Perez, and Nyland saves again! The Leicester striker shows wonderful close control and plays a precise pass through to Vardy, who is closed down quickly by the goalkeeper.
21'
Grealish has struggled to get involved. He is stripped of the ball on the edge of the Leicester area by Praet. Villa build again down the right, but Evans eases the ball out for a goal-kick with El Ghazi in pursuit.
20'
Maddison delivers the corner from the right, which comes all the way through to Fuchs on the left. His cross is poor, though, drifting behind.
18'
Maddison's free-kick picks out Evans, who has his back to goal but looks to nod the ball on. The effort drops well wide.
17'
Another patient spell from Leicester. And they win a free-kick again on the left, Guilbert this time fouling Chilwell.
16'
Maddison carries the ball forward from midfield and has space to shoot from 25 yards. His low shot is well blocked by Mings, though, the ball bouncing through to Nyland.
15'
Fuchs gets a roar of appreciation for a well-timed challenge on El Ghazi, who then fouls the Leicester defender. With the Villa winger drifting into a more familiar right-sided position, the visitors lack a focal point.
14'
It is Villa's turn to deal with a set-piece with ease, the corner cleared. The visitors are just starting to settle into this game despite that first serious Leicester sight of goal.
12'
Leicester deal with the set-piece with ease and can build from the back again.
11'
Villa belatedly keep the ball for a spell and some nice play from Guilbert wins a free-kick from Fuchs on the right.
10'
Tielemans' passing has been very slack in the centre of midfield. His latest concession allows Villa to attack, but Douglas Luiz cannot control a deep Taylor cross.
8'
Villa must do better when they get the ball. El Ghazi beats Evans to a high ball, but a team-mate cheaply gives up possession.
Wasteful from Maddison. He has Vardy and Chilwell making runs up the left but overhits a pass between the two of them, giving Villa a goal-kick.
7'
El Ghazi is offside from a long ball, and again Villa cannot get a hold of the ball. Leicester are passing it around with ease.
6'
Villa get the ball for the first time after a poor Tielemans touch, but Perez hares back to intercept and Leicester can break. Vardy fouls Konsa at the other end, however.
4'
Leicester, who are well on top, work the ball from right to left through Maddison. The midfielder finds Chilwell on the overlap, but a heavy first touch from the England man sees the ball run behind for a goal-kick.
3'
A slightly awkward moment for Nyland. Hause goes up with Soyuncu to challenge for Maddison's free-kick, the defending only heading the ball up in the air in front of his own goal. Nyland comes through a crowd to claim well under pressure.
2'
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Leicester are dominating the early possession. Maddison wins a free-kick around 35 yards from goal on the left.

KICK-OFF: Villa get us up and running!
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary for the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final between Leicester City and Aston Villa!
These two sides are having contrasting seasons, Leicester flying high second in the Premier League while Villa battle relegation. The promoted outfit have also been dealt with a series of injury blows.
Leicester, also through to the fourth round in the FA Cup, required penalty shoot-out victories against Newcastle United and Everton en route to this stage. Villa, knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham on Saturday, thrashed a very young Liverpool team in their previous EFL Cup tie.
Let's get the team news from the King Power Stadium...
Subs: Danny Ward, James Justin, Marc Albrighton, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harvey Barnes, Filip Benkovic, Hamza Choudhury.
Leicester City (3-5-2): Kasper Schmeichel; Caglar Soyuncu, Jonny Evans, Christian Fuchs; Ricardo Pereira, Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet, James Maddison, Ben Chilwell; Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez.
Subs: Lovre Kalinic, James Chester, Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane, Jota, Ahmed El Mohamady, Indiana Vassilev.
Aston Villa (3-4-3): Orjan Nyland; Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause; Frederic Guilbert, Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba, Neil Taylor; Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi, Jack Grealish.
The Foxes last reached the last four of this competition in 1999-2000, beating Villa 1-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals and going on to win the cup.
Given their form this season, Leicester should still be confident of a result both in this game and in the tie, but that was a tougher first half than they might have expected. More incisiveness is required in the final third.
Leicester will have to win at Villa Park to advance, but they might have taken that draw after a very blunt display. They will have to be better to break down the hosts in the second leg.
That's all from this one. Thanks for joining us and, until next time, goodbye!
